A rice farmer chops blocks of snow from the drift. Houses can be seen at the edge of the snow, where it has begun to thaw. Beneath the snow lies the rice field. The farmer cuts the snow with a rotary cutter, which edges forward loudly. He deals with the overhanging snow with a shovel. Meltwater drips; rice shoots become visible through a deep hole. The folksong Sato no Aki can be heard. It is about rice-growing.
