Each glass-fronted wooden box in this four-part series has a funnel at the top and a different flow path inside. Using a metal jar, the user pours the very fine dry sand through the funnel into one of the boxes. The sand flows down to the bottom, trickles through a hole and is collected in a small compartment. Pulling out a wooden slat causes the sand to stream further downwards into a metal jar. And so the cycle starts over: the jar of sand can be removed and emptied into the funnel once again.
