Space to BREATHE
- Pavillon Pinneberg, 2025
- Red fabric (44 x 44 x 15 cm), silkscreen print, yoga cushion; black fabric (100 x 110 x 0.3 cm), silkscreen print; glass of water; flower in vase; notebook.
A space to breathe was created in a pavilion made available for artistic activity by the one-day PAV_STIP fellowship from the Kulturwerk Schleswig-Holstein. The thatched white pavilion was constructed in 1840, and stands in the garden of a historical town house in Pinneberg.
The entrance to the small space is covered by a rectangular black fabric printed with white circles. It has to be pushed aside in order to enter. Inside the octangular pavilion there are only a few objects: in the center, a yoga cushion printed with white circles; on the windowsill, a glass of water to drink; a flower in a vase, and a notebook.
20 white circumferences can be seen on both the black fabric in the entrance and on the red cushion cover. The starting point of this motif is a small central circle, which is surrounded by another circle—and so on up to a total of 20.
The subject matter is the breath, or the process of breathing. The circle extends just like the lungs on inhalation; on exhalation the opposite is the case.
Katrin Wegemann invites you—the visitors—to sit down on the cushion and to use the quiet of the space to become aware of your breath:
How are you breathing at the moment—calmly or rapidly?
Can you count to 20 in one breath?
What do you find out about yourself?
